Walking is the most popular form of physical activity, and for good reason. It’s good for our health, good for the environment, good for the community, good for the economy and good for our kids.
Walking is suitable for people of all ages and fitness levels. It can be done just about anywhere and is free. Walking also has a very low risk of injury as it is low impact (not jarring on the joints) and doesn’t require any special equipment or training.
If you need more convincing, Victoria Walks has put together a list of 10 reasons walking is the best exercise. Their Walking Maps are also a great resource for finding enjoyable walks near you, with over 4,000 walks to choose from.
For those who may be nervous about walking alone, or unsure how to get started, the Heart Foundation Walking website has some fantastic resources, including a register of local walking groups (there are lots in the Living Links region), and an app to help you keep track of your walking and reward you for stepping it up.
Happy walking!
